AboutFaridpur, Bangladesh

From the clinic. For the community.

DTHCRI is a research and health-education initiative in metabolic and endocrine health, rooted in the clinical work of Diabetes, Thyroid, Hormone Care (DTHC) at 20/A Niltuly, Faridpur. Diabetes is its priority, within a wider focus on thyroid disorders, obesity, PCOS (PCOD), infertility, puberty-related conditions, sexual dysfunction in women and men, and osteoporosis. The registered centre, Diabetes, Thyroid, Hormone Care, Research Center, provides its institutional base.

The institute connects three strands of work: clinical research questions arising from metabolic and endocrine care; digital biomarkers and research-data infrastructure through Arrow Health; and evidence-based education in Bangla through books and documentary media. The purpose is to turn meaningful clinical questions into carefully designed studies and knowledge that people can use.

The formal research programme is at an early stage. The clinical base, digital platform and initial baseline work exist; the first studies involving participants are being prepared for ethical review. The areas below describe the institute’s interests. Each specific study is listed separately with its actual status.

  • Clinical research

Metabolic and endocrine research, prioritising diabetes. The first proposed studies address diabetes during Ramadan fasting and clinical validation of camera-based pulse telemetry.

  • Research platform

Arrow Health: structured metabolic logging, lab-report digitisation, growth charts and pulse measurement with device-level encryption, designed so several studies can run on one platform.

  • Health literacy

Bangla clinical books, a public education page followed by 38,000 people, and documentary-based education through 3Z Creative Media.

  • Author of Diabetes and Ramadan; author of a Bengali clinical endocrinology reference series in preparation
  • Documentary-based public health education through 3Z Creative Media

Dr. Haque is an endocrinologist in Faridpur. He founded DTHC to bring specialist endocrine care to the district, then built Arrow Health so that the clinic's daily work could also produce research-grade data. He leads the institute's research instruction: he sets the clinical-safety rules the platform follows, supervises the junior doctors who review the institute's Bangla clinical texts, and directs the evidence-review workflow behind the reference series. He is preparing a prospective PhD track in clinical endocrinology and digital biomarkers (see Research). He has funded the clinic, the platform and the research programme himself to date.

Chief Patron, DTHCRI

  • Professor and Head, Department of Endocrinology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital
  • Secretary General, Association of Clinical Endocrinologist & Diabetologist of Bangladesh (ACEDB)
  • Executive Editor, Journal of ACEDB (JACEDB)

Prof. Prasad is one of Bangladesh's senior academic endocrinologists. He serves as Chief Patron of DTHCRI and of Arrow Health's clinical expert panel, and visited DTHC in Faridpur in September 2026 for clinical and institutional consultation.

Position listed on the JACEDB editorial team page (BanglaJOL).

Close collaboration with ACEDB

DTHCRI works in close collaboration with ACEDB and its clinical community to develop research and evidence-based education in metabolic and endocrine health. The institute remains an independent initiative, rather than a body of the association. Arrow Health’s expert consultation panel draws on ACEDB-member endocrinologists (panel listing). Endocrinology departments and university units are invited to discuss prospective research collaboration.

Questions worth answering.

Protocol identifiers, ethics approval numbers and registrations will appear here when they are granted, not before.

Completed In production In preparation Planned

Camera-based pulse telemetry (photoplethysmography)

Baseline validation completed, September 2026

What exists

Arrow Health measures pulse from a fingertip placed on the phone camera and renders the waveform in real time. A heart rate above 100 bpm is drawn as a red wave and below 60 bpm as an orange wave, so a tachycardic or bradycardic reading is visible at a glance. The module was validated against smartwatch baseline readings in September 2026 and is live in production.

Next step

A clinical validation study against reference electrocardiography and pulse oximetry in endocrine outpatients, reporting agreement across normal, tachycardic and bradycardic ranges. Protocol in preparation for ethical review.

Diabetes during Ramadan fasting

Published guidance; study in preparation

What exists

Diabetes and Ramadan (2026), a Bangla clinical guidance book on fasting safely with diabetes, and a Ramadan planning calculator in Arrow Health.

Next step

A prospective observational study of glycaemic outcomes, hypoglycaemia and medication adjustment among Bangladeshi adults with diabetes who fast, using Arrow Health's structured logging as the data instrument. Protocol in preparation.

Multi-study research-data architecture on Arrow Health

In production; research use pending ethical approval

What exists

Structured, time-stamped records for glucose (mmol/L or mg/dL), meals, medicines and activity; lab-report digitisation by optical character recognition; growth charts; and pulse telemetry, with device-level encryption and local-first storage. The architecture is designed so that several studies can run on one platform with a small clinical team rather than a large paid research staff.

Next step

Consent-gated research data flows, a written data-governance protocol, and submission of the first multi-study protocol for institutional ethical review.

Bangla health literacy and self-management

Materials in production; evaluation planned

What exists

A published book, a multi-volume Bengali clinical endocrinology reference series in preparation, a public education page followed by 38,000 people, and documentary-based education through 3Z Creative Media.

Next step

An evaluation of whether native-language clinical materials improve self-management and glycaemic control in people with diabetes. Design stage.

Prospective PhD and doctoral research track

Dr. Haque is preparing a doctoral research track in clinical endocrinology and digital biomarkers. The track is prospective: an institution and supervision are yet to be confirmed. The intended work draws on the four lines above, with Arrow Health's multi-study data architecture as its instrument:

  1. Validation of smartphone-camera pulse telemetry against clinical reference measurement in endocrine outpatients.
  2. Glycaemic outcomes and safety during Ramadan fasting in Bangladeshi adults with diabetes.
  3. The effect of native-language clinical materials on self-management.

The books, the platform and this site are being built as components of that work. Universities and supervisors working in these areas are invited to write to [email protected].

PlatformArrow Health, in production since May 2026

Arrow Health. Care, connected.

Arrow Health is a mobile health platform built by DTHC and in production on Google Play since May 2026. It gives people with diabetes, thyroid and hormone conditions one place to log glucose, meals, medicines, activity and growth; to digitise lab reports by scanning them; to measure pulse with the phone camera; and to book consultations with ACEDB-member endocrinologists. It works in Bangla and English.

For the institute, the same platform is research infrastructure. Every module writes structured, time-stamped records, so a study can be run through the app by a small clinical team. Research use of any record requires the person's explicit consent and ethical approval; neither is claimed yet.

  • Metabolic loggingGlucose in mmol/L or mg/dL, meal records with estimated glucose impact, medicine reminders and activity.
  • Lab-report digitisationOptical character recognition of printed laboratory reports and medicine packaging.
  • Growth and body metricsGrowth charts, BMI, BMR and energy-expenditure calculators.
  • Pulse telemetryCamera-based photoplethysmography with red (above 100 bpm) and orange (below 60 bpm) waveform thresholds.
  • Expert consultationIn-app booking with ACEDB-member endocrinologists; Chief Patron Prof. Dr. Indrajit Prasad.
  • Data protectionDevice-level encryption; records stay on the person's own device unless they turn on sync, which runs over encrypted connections.

Built with Flutter, a Django back end on Google Cloud Run and local-first encrypted storage. SSLCommerz acknowledged the onboarding payment and document handoff in June 2026; subsequent compliance and activation status require separate confirmation. Arrow Health is free to use; optional paid plans exist for cost recovery, and the founder reinvests that revenue in development and research. The platform has been self-funded to date. Arrow Health is not a substitute for professional medical advice.

GovernanceLegal status, ethics, data and funding integrity

Trust, built into the work.

  • Legal status

DTHCRI is the research initiative of Diabetes, Thyroid & Hormone Care Research Institute (Diabetes, Thyroid, Hormone Care, Research Center), registered with Faridpur Pourashava under Trade Licence No. 2025-00109, issued 8 July 2026. VAT/BIN registration 006742602-0908. D-U-N-S number 73-223-5262. The initiative operates as a non-commercial programme within a registered private clinical centre; it holds no separate charity or foundation registration at this time.

  • Research ethics

All research involving people follows the Declaration of Helsinki. Protocols are prepared in line with the Bangladesh Medical Research Council's Ethical Guidelines for Conducting Research Studies Involving Human Subjects and are submitted for institutional ethical review, and to the BMRC National Research Ethics Committee where required, before any participant is enrolled. No study involving participants has started, and no ethical approval is claimed.

  • Data protection

Arrow Health stores personal health records on the person's own device with device-level encryption. Nothing leaves the device unless the person turns on sync, which runs over encrypted connections. Images submitted for scanning are processed and discarded, not retained. Research use of any record requires explicit, separate consent.

  • Conflicts of interest

Dr. Haque founded DTHCRI and is the Clinical Director and Systems Architect of Arrow Health, which DTHC develops. This dual role is disclosed in every protocol, publication and funding application involving the platform.

  • Funding integrity

Grant funds are held and reported separately from Arrow Health's operating revenue and used only for the project they were awarded to. From the first grant onward, DTHCRI publishes an annual statement of funds received and spent.

  • Accuracy

This site is kept as a factual record. Affiliations, approvals and registrations are listed only once granted, and every study is labelled by its actual status. Last reviewed 26 October 2026.

SupportGrants, sponsorships and institutional contributions

Move the research forward.

DTHCRI has been built and funded by its founder. To run the studies above to international standard, the institute is seeking the following. Each request is specific, and each outcome will be public.

  • Research grants

Funding for the first two studies: clinical validation of camera-based pulse telemetry against reference ECG and pulse oximetry, and a prospective study of glycaemic outcomes during Ramadan fasting.

Costs: reference measurement devices, data-collection staff, biostatistical support, ethics review fees and open-access publication.

  • Academic sponsorships

A doctoral position or fellowship for the Principal Investigator's prospective PhD track in clinical endocrinology and digital biomarkers, with supervision from a university department.

Sponsored places on research-methods and good-clinical-practice training for the clinical team.

  • Institutional contributions

In-kind support that lets a small team work at scale: research access to computing and language-model platforms, statistical software, reference measurement devices and wearables for validation studies.

Co-investigators from ACEDB-member departments and university units.

Sustainable R&D funding

Arrow Health's optional paid plans provide cost recovery, and the founder reinvests that revenue in development and research-oriented work. Grants and sponsorships are kept separate from this revenue and reported annually.

What partners receive

  • Named acknowledgement in protocols and publications; co-authorship where contribution meets ICMJE criteria.
  • Access to anonymised, consented datasets under data-sharing agreements once studies are approved.
  • A public annual statement of how funds were used.
Write to [email protected] or call 01771-994455. Letters of support, institutional details and the founder's CV are available on request.
